Traveling is exciting, but let’s be honest — flying can really take a toll on your skin. Dryness, puffiness, unexpected breakouts… none of these are the “travel glow” we look forward to.
Celebrity dermatologist Dr. Deepali Bhardwaj explains that low humidity and cabin pressure changes during flights can seriously stress your skin. Plus, landing in a new city with a different climate only adds to the challenge.
“It’s not just about your skin feeling tired. Sitting for long hours also slows down blood circulation, which can cause that annoying puffiness,” she says.
Dr. Kiran Lohia, another skin specialist, points out that the air inside the plane has very low oxygen and almost no moisture. This dry environment leads to dryness, sensitivity, chapped lips, and dry hands. Dehydration and pressure changes can even trigger breakouts and swelling.

Dr. Lohia’s must-follow pre-flight routine: moisturize generously. She suggests applying a sleeping mask rich in hyaluronic acid or even a layer of Vaseline on your face, lips, elbows, knees, and hands.
Dr. Bhardwaj adds a few bonus tips: Keep a hydrating mist with you — something simple like rose water or cucumber water works well — and avoid heavy makeup during the flight. Once you land, don’t forget to cleanse your face, rehydrate your skin, and apply sunscreen. Your skin deserves a fresh start when you reach your destination!
